| > Local Availability of Paper in This Guide | This guide includes information for paper sold in North or South America. Some paper in the guide may not be available locally, depending on your location.
|
> Printer Operations | For instructions on loading or cutting paper or other printer operations, refer to the User Manual.
|
> Updating the Paper Reference Guide | The Paper Reference Guide is automatically updated when you update the Media Configuration Tool. To download the latest version of the Media Configuration Tool, access the imagePROGRAF website from imagePROGRAF Support Information.
|
> Genuine Canon Paper | The media types with "†" marked in the product name are those specified as genuine Canon media. For other media, please contact the respective media manufacturer after reading the instruction manuals supplied with the media.
|
> Handling the Media | - Handle all media carefully, being careful not to rub or damage it. We recommend wearing gloves when handling media.
- Handle media so as to keep the print surface free of sweat and grease from hands. This may affect the printing quality.
- After printing, allow ink to dry before handling.
- After printing, handle prints carefully and avoid touching the print surface. Due to their nature, pigment inks may flake off if rubbed or scratched.
- Paper may stretch or shrink from changes in humidity or other environmental factors. Allow ample time for the paper to adjust to the environment before use.
- After use, remove paper from the printer if environmental changes are expected and store it in the bag.
|
> Loading Rolls | Unaligned roll edges, stains and tape marks may lead to faulty paper feeding. If the roll edge is curled, straighten the curled edge before loading the roll.
|
> Ejecting Roll Paper | Depending on the condition of paper after ejection, ejected sheets may impede ejection of the next sheet or damage other sheets. Remove each sheet after ejection.
|
> Borderless Printing | - If you use an A2 roll for borderless printing, insert the provided Spacer for Borderless Printing on the Roll Holder. The platen may be soiled from borderless printing if you do not attach it.
- Borderless printing is not possible with sheets.
|
> If Paper Cannot be Selected | If the type of paper loaded cannot be selected on the control panel or in the printer driver, try specifying paper for which "BK" is indicated in the Black Ink column as a special paper (Special Paper 1 to 5), or try specifying paper for which "MBK" is indicated as Special 6 to Special 10.
|
> Cutting Options for Rolls That Take Time for Ink to Dry (Eject Cut) | Ink takes longer to dry on paper for which Auto Cutting is labeled "Eject cut" in the Roll Specification section. If you use automatic cutting after printing and the document drops, ink may rub off the printed surface. Support the document after printing as you wait for the printer to cut it. For detailed instructions, refer to the printer's User Manual.
|
> Color Calibration | Color calibration is a feature that compensates for changes in color from individual variation among Printheads or from the printing environment, ensuring better color consistency. Although paper labeled with "No" in the Color Calibration column cannot be used to perform color calibration (that is, to print the patterns for adjustment), the adjustment value from calibration using paper labeled with "Yes" will also be used as the basis for adjustment for these types of paper. For detailed instructions, refer to the printer's User Manual.
|
> Operating Environment | If used in other than the recommended environment, your printer may develop the following problems. Be sure to conduct printing in the recommended operating environment.
<Low Humidity Environment (below 40%)>
- Paper becomes curled or wrinkled.
- Paper and the printhead are more likely to touch each other, resulting in a scratched print surface or damaged printhead.
- The cut printed matter sticks to the printer and will not fall down (film media).
- Paper sticks to the printer, making its transfer impossible and preventing its normal ejection (film media).
- Uneven printing (film media)
<High Humidity Environment (over 60%)>
- Printed matter will not dry.
- Wavy media surface
- Cut edges are ragged (fabric media).

Photo Paper | Having a gloss like photographic paper for silver halide photos, Glossy Photo Paper is suitable for high-definition photo images. This paper is resin-coated, preventing problems from ink absorption and ensuring a flat finish. Semi-Glossy Photo Paper is glossy white paper less reflective than regular glossy photo paper. The soft finish of this paper is subdued, for minimal glare. Its low reflectivity makes it a good choice for display panels and presentation graphics at exhibitions, or for point-of-purchase displays.

If you have selected Automatic for Trim Edge First, the printer will determine the state of the leading edge and cut the paper automatically as needed. Off is the default setting for most types of paper. *2: Paper labeled with "No" cannot be used to perform color calibration (that is, to print the patterns for adjustment). However, the adjustment value from calibration using paper labeled with "Yes" will also be used as the basis for adjustment for these types of paper.

Art Paper | Art paper that expands the potentials of large-format ink jet printing. Provides a placid and high-definition image quality in various applications from portrait, landscape and watercolor to digital art works. Canvas is a polyester woven fabric-based cloth with a unique feel. Available in matte and semi-glossy types, it is best suited for reproduction of oil and other paintings and prints of painting-like digital art works. Japanese paper washi offers compatibility between ink jet print suitability and traditional washi look and feel. This paper is a good choice to convey a feeling of warmth and a somewhat subdued effect in artwork or point-of-purchase displays depicting watercolor pictures, ink drawings, or art with an Asian touch.

| Precautions
- If print quality is your priority and you are using the output stacker, turn off the auto cutting function and stop the printer after printing. We recommend supporting the document with your hands to prevent it from dropping before you press the Stop/Eject button and cut the paper.
- Fine Art Block Print
Fine Art Block Print art paper is not guaranteed to be compatible with borderless printing without borders on all four sides. It is compatible only with borderless printing without borders on two sides. However, before this kind of borderless printing, set CutDustReduct. to On in the MAIN MENU. For details, refer to the printer's User Manual.
- Canvas Matte 2
Because rolls cannot be cut neatly under some conditions, Cutting Mode is Manual by default. Changing this setting to cut using the cutter may cause problems. The roll edge may not be cut straight, or the cutter may wear out faster.
