Ultimate Guitar Chord Trainer: An Intermediate Lesson Plan

Contents

As an intermediate, you should know how to play every dominant 7th inversion on any string. Now, you should move on to the rest of the chord flavors.

Fortunately, learning the other chord flavors is a little easier. This is because many of them will require that you move only one or two fingers. For example, the only difference between a dominant 7th chord and a major 7th chord is the 7th. By moving the 7th up a fret, all of your voicings will become major 7th chords!

Similarly, moving the 3rd down a fret from a dominant 7th voicing, all of your voicings become minor 7th chords.

In this way, you can learn any chord voicing whatever, by simply altering one or two notes.

Now, begin to explore the other chord voicings. The better you know which chord tones are under which fingers, the easier it will be.

When you can play all chord flavors, all strings and all inversions within the 1 second, 1 second time frame. Move on to the advanced lesson.
